QR Code Job Tracking Case Study

The Business Problem

The office could only see where a job had got to when someone walked over and asked, or when paperwork came back from the shop floor. Progress was written down and keyed into the database later, so the database was often behind what was happening on the machines. Plate numbers and out dates had to be copied across by hand, with the delays and mistakes that come with it. AJS needed the people doing the work to update the job themselves, at the moment they did it.

The Solution

wildesoft.net added a QR code to every job line produced from the production database. A worker scans the code with their phone's camera and goes straight to that job on a simple, phone-friendly web page. If they are not yet signed in, they sign in once and land back on the same job.

The page shows the customer and account, the item and the stage the job has reached. The worker picks the stage they have just completed, which is already set to their own role, and can add the plate number and the out date. One tap saves it, and the change goes straight back into the production database through a secure connection, where the office sees it at once.

There is no app to install. It works in any phone's web browser.

The Result

The production database now shows where every job is as the work happens, not hours later. The office can answer customers' questions without leaving their desks, and details are entered once, by the person who knows them, instead of being copied from paper.
