The Business Problem

The old club finder made people work for the answer. Visitors had to know which region they were in, then browse a map or a list of regions to find clubs. Searching by town only worked if the town matched a club's name, so someone in a nearby village or with only a postcode found nothing. Clubs that were still forming or only planned were mixed in with live clubs, and nothing on a club's page pointed to other clubs nearby.

The Solution

wildesoft.net rebuilt club search around where people are. A visitor can type a town or postcode and see every club within 25 miles. Suggestions appear as they type, and a postcode lookup service fills in the location. If the lookup service is slow, the search gives up after a few seconds and offers place and club-name matches instead, so a search never hangs.

The club finder is now one page, with sections for clubs meeting now, clubs opening soon and planned locations by region. Each club is clearly tagged Live, In formation or Planned, and clubs that meet on Zoom show a camera icon. Planned clubs have their own page, so people can see where new clubs are coming. Every club page now has a Where we meet card, with a map and the other live and forming clubs within 25 miles. Links to the region pages now open the new finder, so no links or search rankings were lost.

The Result

Anyone can find their nearest club from just a town or postcode, and see what's opening near them.
