Impact Measurement Case Study
Impact Measurement Ltd helps organisations measure and report the social, economic and environmental value of what they do. Its tools include LM3 Online and Meal Analyser, both built by wildesoft.net. Since 2025 wildesoft.net has also built its mapping service, and in 2026 Deprivation Lens, a map of how much of a buyer's supplier spend reaches the UK's most deprived communities.
The Business Problem
Large buyers, especially in construction and the public sector, are increasingly asked to show that their spending supports the places that need it most. Impact Measurement's earlier supplier mapping demo showed this as a summary table over a national map, which made it hard to see which neighbourhoods suppliers were in. Its maps used boundaries that didn't fit together neatly, carried no facts about each area, and could only be searched by council names. Deprivation itself is measured differently in each of the four UK nations, so areas couldn't be compared fairly across the country.
The Solution
wildesoft.net first built the mapping service behind the LM3 Hub, which finds the areas around a point or a name and returns their outlines, looks up addresses and postcodes, and is protected so only approved systems can use it.
In 2026 the service was rebuilt on the official ONS boundaries, from the four countries down to over 8,400 wards, each fitting exactly inside the level above. Every area now carries its population, deprivation, jobs and median income from official sources, including a single UK-wide deprivation figure that allows fair comparisons across the four nations. A town and postcode search finds any of over 58,000 towns and villages, including Welsh and Gaelic names.
On top of this sits Deprivation Lens. A buyer's suppliers are placed in their wards, which are shaded by how deprived they are, both area by area and across the whole UK. A Total Indicative Impact box turns the spend into indicative jobs and wealth using current ONS rates, for the whole list and for the area on screen. Before it opened to the public, the site and its services went through a security check, and the fixes that mattered were made.
The Result
Impact Measurement now has a public demo that shows, in seconds, where a buyer's suppliers are, how much of the spend reaches the most deprived areas, and what that spending indicatively supports. Every figure comes from a named official source and every pound in a supplier list is accounted for.
