Grouped Web Products Case Study
ACE Embroidery uses Proof Manager to design customised garments and turn them into products for its customers' online shops. Many of those garments come in several colours, each with its own proof.
The Business Problem
Each colour of the same garment was being treated as a separate product. Staff had to create every colour as a new web product by hand, number them consistently, and make sure they appeared together in the shop. Nothing stopped a proof being added to two groups by mistake, and the export for the order-management system had no way of showing which items belonged together.
The Solution
wildesoft.net added grouped products to Proof Manager:
- staff identify a group, give it a name, and choose which colours to include, with a default colour for the shop
- the web product is cloned for each colour, with item numbers increased automatically and a warning shown when that happens
- every proof in a group is shown together, and a proof that already belongs to a group can't be added to another
- search results show which group a proof belongs to
- the export sheet carries the group name and the parent product code, so ACE's order-management system and the shop treat the colours as one product
- a whole group can be exported in one go, and columns that aren't needed are left empty to make the sheet easier to check.
Grouping was then switched on by default for the product category where it was needed most.
The Result
A garment that comes in several colours is now set up once, not once per colour. Customers see the colours together in the shop, numbering is consistent, and the data reaching production is correct first time.
