The Business Problem

Software of that age gathers risk. Parts of the platform depended on older frameworks and on a data-access library that was no longer maintained. Some secure connections began to fail as security standards tightened, and unused projects and integrations were still being carried along. Performance problems were hard to diagnose, and there was no shared, documented way to test the system's endpoints.

The Solution

wildesoft.net has modernised the platform steadily, alongside new features rather than as a separate rewrite:

• the API and order feed were upgraded to .NET 8, solving the secure-connection (TLS) problems, and the main applications were moved onto newer .NET Framework versions
• data access is being moved, area by area, from the unmaintained library to a modern, well-supported one, with typed data objects replacing loosely typed code
• the Excel tools were upgraded, and spreadsheet validation now reports every problem in an import at once, with clearer messages
• performance profiling was added so slow pages can be pinpointed, and heavy searches were reduced when the server was under strain
• unused projects, an old payment page and an unused chat integration were removed
• a shared collection of API requests was set up so endpoints can be tested consistently
• code was reorganised into clearer services, and naming was tidied for future maintenance.

The Result

ACE's systems are more secure, easier to support and better placed for the next set of features. Changes can be made with more confidence, and problems are easier to find when they occur.
