Buffer Strips Case Study

Many farms set aside field margins as buffer strips or for environmental schemes. Those areas must not receive fertiliser or manure.

The Business Problem

Nutricalc planned applications across a field's full area. If part of a field was set aside as a buffer, advisers had no clean way to take it out of the calculation. That risked over-stating the area being fertilised and the quantities required, and made environmental areas hard to report on.

The Solution

wildesoft.net reviewed and completed Nutricalc's buffer feature and put it live. Advisers record the buffer area for each field in Year View. Only the remaining cropped area is used for fertiliser and manure planning in Field View. For example, a 5 hectare field with a 1 hectare buffer is planned on 4 hectares. Buffer areas are totalled and shown clearly on the report.

The Result

Nutrient plans now reflect the land that is actually being cropped. Application quantities are more accurate, and CXCS can show farmers exactly how much land is in buffer strips and environmental schemes. That supports both good practice and scheme compliance.
