Planning Dates Case Study
Each year, CXCS advisers copy a farm's plan into an "actual" record, and create the following year's plan from it. Nutricalc carries across every cropping, manure and fertiliser application along with its date.
The Business Problem
To keep records realistic, Nutricalc slightly varies the dates it copies forward. Unfortunately the variation could push events out of order – fertiliser appearing before the crop was sown, or manure after fertiliser. As anyone in farming will tell you, you cannot fertilise a crop that hasn't been planted.
Advisers had to spot and correct these errors by hand, and a single badly formatted date could block a year from being copied at all.
The Solution
wildesoft.net reworked the copying logic so that every new date is anchored to the one before it, guaranteeing that sowing, manure and fertiliser always stay in the right sequence. The same rules were applied consistently both when copying a plan to actual and when creating a new year, and sowing dates now follow the previous year's actual dates. A new checker highlights any problem dates so advisers can fix them immediately rather than being left with a failed copy.
The Result
Plans now roll forward cleanly, in the correct agronomic order, first time. Advisers no longer waste time hunting for out-of-sequence dates, and the records CXCS produces for its clients are consistent and credible.
