LM3 Version 6 Rebuild Case Study

LM3 Online has been helping organisations measure their local economic impact for many years. In August 2025 wildesoft.net began LM3 Version 6, a complete rebuild of the platform, now running as the LM3 Hub.

The Business Problem

The earlier version had served its users well, but it was built on older technology that was hard to extend. New ideas, such as mapping any organisation's local area, regional results and supplier responses collected online, would have been slow and risky to add. Existing customers and their projects also had to move across without being asked to start again.

The Solution

wildesoft.net built Version 6 on Microsoft's latest .NET platform, as a set of small, focused parts: the Hub website, a mapping API and separate background services for address lookup, indicative LM3, bulk email and email statistics, orchestrated together for development and deployment. The website moved to a simpler page-based structure part way through, and the platform has been kept on the current version of .NET throughout.

Every part has automated tests, from the LM3 calculations to whole user journeys, and deployment is scripted. A dedicated data migration service moves existing users and their projects across from the previous version.

The Result

LM3 has a modern platform that new features can be added to quickly and safely, as the steady flow of releases since launch shows. Existing customers can move across with their history intact, and the platform is ready for new LM3 products to be built on it.
