Organisation Carbon Reports Case Study
Meal Analyser, from Impact Measurement Ltd, calculates the carbon and health impact of food served by schools, hospitals and restaurants. For a large caterer, the dish is only the start: what matters is the impact of each service it runs, such as a school's lunch menu across a term.
The Business Problem
Analysing dishes one at a time gives no sense of a service's overall footprint. Some dishes are chosen far more often than others, plate waste differs from dish to dish, and a group needs to compare services and sites. Organisations wanted a single, professional report for each service that they could share with leaders, governors and stakeholders.
The Solution
wildesoft.net built organisation reports based on how a service actually runs. A service can be built from its set menu, and each dish records its uptake, meaning how many times it is chosen. The service report then shows every dish with its weight, plate waste, uptake and total carbon emissions, so the dishes that drive the footprint are obvious. Interactive charts and colour-coded carbon intensity bands make the figures easy to read, and the report's header shows the service's total emissions.
The emissions figures were brought into line with the latest version of the master calculation spreadsheet, including updated transport, disposal and plate waste calculations, so service totals match the established method. Each report can be downloaded as a branded PDF, and carries a written commentary, produced by AI from the calculated figures, that explains what they mean for that service.
The Result
Organisations can now see the carbon footprint of a whole service, understand which dishes matter most, and share a polished report with the people who need it. The tool has moved from analysing a dish to reporting on an organisation.
