Price Lists and Discounts Case Study

2022 to 2023

Midland Super Cream sells hundreds of ice cream, slush and sundry lines to shops and caterers. Different customers pay different prices, so every account is linked to a price list, and the price list sits at the heart of the ordering system.

The Business Problem

In the old system, adding products to a price list was slow and clunky. Staff could not easily see a product's normal price next to its discounted one, and taking a product off a list meant losing it, even when it was only out of stock for a while. Free-of-charge items could not be added to orders at all, because the system rejected a zero price.

The Solution

wildesoft.net built price list management around a quick product search. Each list holds only the products that carry a discount, with the base price shown alongside so the discount is clear. Discounts can be edited in place rather than deleted and re-added, and products can be removed and brought back at any time without losing history.

When a product is added to an order, the system checks the account's price list and applies the right discount automatically, showing both the normal and the discounted price. Staff can still override a price for a one-off deal. Free-of-charge lines are allowed, prices round correctly, and customer-facing paperwork never shows discount percentages. Longer search results make it easy to find a product among dozens of similar lines.

The Result

Customers are charged the right price every time without staff having to remember who gets what. Price lists are quick to maintain, and temporary changes no longer cost any history.
