Reports for the Accounts Case Study

2022 to 2023

Midland Super Cream keeps its books in Sage, and the figures come from the ordering system. Each day's invoices have to be totalled and checked before they are entered, and the business needs to see what is selling and to whom.

The Business Problem

The old system's reports were built in an older reporting tool, full of charts nobody used and hard to change. The daily totals used to enter figures into Sage had to be right to the penny, and there was a real risk of a delivery going out without ever being invoiced.

The Solution

wildesoft.net rebuilt the reports the business actually uses, and dropped the rest. Every report opens on screen as a PDF, ready to print or save.

The ledger totals report summarises completed invoices day by day, showing the VAT-able and non-VAT-able amounts, VAT, credits and totals, for a single day or a range. It is the report the office uses to enter figures into Sage. The products units sold report ranks products by units sold, and the products sold by customer report breaks sales down by customer and product. Both are based on delivery date and take credits into account. A deliveries without invoices report lists any delivery that has not yet been invoiced, so nothing is missed.

Problems found once the reports were in daily use, such as a rounding difference on the ledger totals and a single-day filter that fell back to the previous month, were fixed as they came up.

The Result

The office enters its daily figures into Sage from one trusted report, and can see at a glance what is selling and to whom. Missed invoices are caught before they become lost income.
