Upgrading to .NET 10 with AI Case Study
wildesoft.net's own website runs on a content management system we built ourselves. It had served us well for years, but it was still on the old ASP.NET MVC 5 platform, with front-end libraries from the same era. In October 2026 we used AI to help us move the whole site to .NET 10.
The Business Problem
The site was falling behind. It ran on a framework that receives no new features, depended on packages that would never run on modern .NET, and used two different, long-outdated versions of Bootstrap and jQuery. Its file manager, error logging and analytics were all from products that were retired or no longer supported, and admin passwords weren't stored to today's standards. An upgrade of this size is usually a long, risky project, and it's exactly the kind of upgrade our clients ask us about.
The Solution
We treated the upgrade as a series of small, tested steps. First the site moved to the final version of the .NET Framework, settings and secrets were taken out of the code, and the old data layer was replaced feature by feature with a modern, lightweight one. Automated browser tests were added before anything else changed, and they caught problems straight away.
AI then helped us compare the options for .NET 10, write a migration plan and carry out each phase: the public site, the admin area, the file manager, security and deployment. We made every design decision ourselves, and every phase was reviewed and tested before the next one started. The front end was then modernised too, with Bootstrap 5 and jQuery 4 replacing four older libraries, and the old analytics replaced with privacy-friendly Cloudflare Web Analytics.
The Result
The site moved from MVC 5 to .NET 10 in four working days, without a rewrite and with no loss of content. It's now smaller, more secure and fully supported. It also proves an approach we now offer clients: AI speeds up the work, but experienced developers plan it, check it and stay accountable for it.
