Building the Demos with AI Case Study
The wildesoft.net website has always had a section of live demonstrations. After the move to .NET 10, we used AI to help us replace them with tools that show what we actually do for clients.
The Business Problem
The old demonstrations were showcases for a set of user interface widgets: charts, a grid, a date picker, a slider and pop-up windows. Their data was dated, they relied on a component library we had just removed, and they said nothing about our real work, which is building and connecting the systems a business runs on. They made the site look inactive rather than showing how we could help.
The Solution
We started with a short design for what the section should do, then used AI to help turn it into a plan and build it, reviewing and testing each part as it was finished. The demonstrations became a new Tools section with two working tools.
The admin cost calculator lets a visitor tick the manual tasks their business does, enter the hours and an hourly rate, and see the yearly cost, a realistic range of savings and the hours that could be freed, all updated as they type on a phone or desktop. A result can be shared by link, and "Book a free 15-minute call" opens the contact form with the figures already filled in.
The live integration example reworks our weather demo to show how we connect to other systems. It fetches a real Location Forecast, keeps a copy so the outside service isn't overloaded, and shows when the data was fetched and when it expires, along with how failures are handled.
Every old demonstration address now redirects to a working page, so no links were broken.
The Result
The new Tools section was designed and built within a day. Visitors now get something useful from it, and it leads naturally to a conversation. It's also where our Ask about our work chat lives.
