Missing Translations Case Study

iTS's reseller portal is used in English, German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Polish and Russian. Each language has its own set of translated text.

The Business Problem

Over the years, new screens and messages had been added without always being marked for translation. There was no easy way to find the gaps, so partners abroad would see a mix of their own language and English. Even text that was marked had inconsistencies. "Total" and "TOTAL", or a label with and without a colon, counted as different phrases, which doubled the translation work.

The Solution

wildesoft.net built a translation scanner. It reads every screen in the portal, finds any visible text that isn't marked for translation, and produces a spreadsheet of what's missing for each language. Product names and addresses are excluded automatically.

The portal's text was then standardised. Every piece of text now goes through one translation function, and trailing colons are handled automatically, so duplicate entries could be removed.

Suggested translations were added to the spreadsheets, using the terms already used elsewhere in the portal, for a native speaker to review. Once approved, they were added for German, Spanish, French, Dutch and Polish. Rerunning the scanner now shows nothing missing for those languages.

The Result

Partners get a portal that speaks their language consistently. iTS can rerun the scanner after any change to catch new gaps before users ever see them.
