Retiring Legacy Features Case Study
Over the years, iTS's scheduled services and portal had built up dozens of reports, dashboards and automated jobs. Some were still essential, but others had quietly stopped being useful.
The Business Problem
Old scheduled reports and jobs were still running every day. They included sales summaries, blank lead and order checks, subscription and maintenance expiry reports, a support dashboard, a payments-before-delivery check, and emails through a payment-chasing service that iTS no longer used. Retired products such as Willow360, perpetual Umango and Hive-only pricing were also still in the quoting wizard.
All of this cluttered staff inboxes, slowed the services down and had to be maintained. Worse, it hid the code and reports that really mattered.
The Solution
wildesoft.net worked through the list with iTS, item by item, and agreed what to keep, change or remove. The cleanup included:
- removing obsolete reports, dashboards and their schedules
- redirecting the reports that were still needed to the right shared mailbox
- removing a legacy payment page
- taking retired products out of the wizard
- dropping old history-tracking code and an unused sales-report reset job.
Each removal was confirmed with iTS before it was made. Anything still useful was kept and simplified.
The Result
iTS's services now do only what the business needs. Staff get fewer, more relevant emails, the services run lighter, and there is far less code to maintain. Around 20 obsolete features were retired in two years, and more code was removed than added over that time. That makes every future change quicker and safer.
